Duties and Responsibilities
The successful Medical Officer will provide clinical services at Jubilee District Hospital and contribute to patient management, referrals, teaching and service improvement.

Manage referrals and transfers from Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 healthcare facilities within the hospital’s drainage area.
Ensure that patients requiring specialist care are appropriately assessed and referred.
2. Daily Ward Rounds
Conduct daily clinical ward rounds and provide outpatient services within the relevant unit.
Monitor patients’ progress and contribute to ongoing treatment plans.
3. Interdepartmental Consultations
Attend clinical consultations requested by other departments and participate in multidisciplinary patient management.
4. Up-Referral and Down-Referral
Arrange appropriate up-referrals for patients requiring higher levels of healthcare.
Facilitate down-referral of clinically stable patients to suitable Level 1 clinics for continued care.
5. Clinical Protocols and Procedures
Assist in reviewing and updating clinical protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
6. Clinical Training and Supervision
Support in-service training for junior Medical Officers, nurses and supplementary health professionals.
7. Academic and District Activities
Attend academic meetings and district meetings and maintain current professional knowledge.
8. Healthcare Coordination
Liaise with general medical units, subspecialty services, other hospital departments and community clinics to facilitate consultations and patient transfers.
9. Compliance with Healthcare Legislation
Maintain familiarity with the South African National Health Act 61 of 2003 and its relevance to clinical practice.
